[Fedora] How to install Skype

As you know, Skype is the most popular VoIP client. If you go to its website, there is a .rpm file to download and to install. However, you may have problems because you are running GNOME desktop (as me) and there aren’t the dependencies that the installation needs.

Fortunately, there is a RPM repository to install skype. To setup it, you must follow these steps:

  • Create a skype.repo file: gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/skype.repo
  • Fill it with this these lines:

After that, you must do: “yum update && yum install skype” to install it.

  1. You can install the rpm using yum which takes care of all dependencies:

    yum localinstall skype.rpm

But of course, using the repo is recommended as it takes care of all future updates.
